Manchester United agree to Casemiro contract clause removal ahead of summer exitCasemiro will be able to start every remaining game for Manchester United this season after a clause in his contract that would have triggered an extension was nullified. It's understood that the 34-year-old had a clause in his agreement that would have resulted in a one-year extension if he started 35 Premier League games in his final season at the club, a total he is still on track to achieve. However, the Manchester Evening News has learned that the club and Casemiro agreed in January to waive the clause during discussions to officially announce that he would be departing Old Trafford at the end of the season.

The Brazilian midfielder was informed by United officials earlier in the season that his contract wouldn't be renewed, but in early 2026, he chose to make the news public, a request to which United consented.
This came shortly after information about the clause that would extend his £350,000-a-week (around $470,000 per week) deal for a fifth season had emerged, but the two parties agreed that it wouldn't be activated, even if the target was met.
At the time, that seemed unlikely. Casemiro would have needed to start all of the final 21 Premier League games of the season to reach the target of 35 after missing the December trip to Aston Villa due to suspension.
However, the former Real Madrid midfielder has become a crucial component of the team, particularly since Michael Carrick took over in January, and he is now on a run of 14 consecutive starts in the Premier League.
If the clause had remained active, it would have meant United would have needed to exclude him from the starting line-up for a game, potentially substituting him on early in one just to prevent reaching the total of 35 starts. Both parties concurred that this was unnecessary, allowing Carrick to select him in the starting line-up for all remaining Premier League games.
Casemiro's recent performances have sparked demands for United's decision not to extend his contract to be reconsidered, but this position at Old Trafford isn't set to be altered, and plans are already underway to secure a replacement.
Indeed, it is believed that Casemiro is actually nearing an agreement over a transfer to a new club when his contract concludes at the end of June.
