Trump threatens to blow up Iran
Amid growing unrest in Iran, where mass protests triggered by the collapse of the rial and soaring inflation have evolved into a nationwide movement demanding an end to clerical rule, President Donald Trump threatened to blow the entire nation up if the country’s leaders don’t stop taunting him.
In a prime-time exclusive interview on Tuesday, January 20, on NewsNation’s Katie Pavlich Tonight, Trump marked the anniversary of his second-term inauguration by issuing threats of military action against Iran.
Asked about threats from Iran’s leadership, Trump said, “Well, they shouldn’t be doing it, but I’ve left notification. Anything ever happens…the whole country is going to get blown up.”
Trump called Ayatollah ‘a sick man’
Encouraging Iranian protesters to continue, Trump added that it was “time to look for new leadership in Iran.” Earlier this month, he also referred to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as a “sick man.”
In response, the country’s leaders warned that any aggression toward Khamenei would result in Tehran “setting their world on fire” and their targeting of all U.S. bases in the region.
On January 14, Iranian state-run television broadcasted an image of Trump from the July 2024 Butler, Penn., assassination attempt with a caption stating, “This time, it will not miss the target.”
‘I would hit them so hard’
Trump told Pavlich that he takes Iran’s threats against him very seriously, while also blaming former President Joe Biden and criticizing the former Democratic leader’s Iran policy — which focused on reviving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA, through diplomacy aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear program while addressing its regional activities. That approach included indirect talks, limited sanctions relief tied to prisoner releases and continued pressure through sanctions on Iranian proxies and military programs.
“So, we’ve, you know, originally, Biden should have said something…If I were here and they were making that threat to somebody, even, not even a president, but somebody like they did with me, I would absolutely hit them so hard. But I have very firm instructions—anything happens, they’re going to wipe them off the face of this Earth,” he warned.
