Ex-Russian leader Medvedev tells Trump to send troops to eliminate 'Pablo Escobars' of Kyiv
Dmitry Medvedev has called on Donald Trump to enter Ukraine to eliminate "drug mercenaries".
The former Russian President pleaded with the American president to send US forces directly to Kyiv in order to tackle what he described as the "Pablo Escobars" of the city. This comes just days after Trump moved submarines close to Russia after provocations from Medvedev himself.
In a message uploaded to his Telegram channel, Medvedev - now working as the Deputy Chairman of Russia's security council - Medvedev said US troops should land in Kyiv and take over the city. He added that Bankova Street - the street housing President Volodomyr Zelenskyy should be "steamrolled" - with Washington handling all of Ukraine's affairs.
Medvedev went on to attack European leaders for trying to block measures to bring an end to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Both President Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin are set to meet in Alaska on Friday (August 15), but other Western leaders have insisted Ukraine needs to be at the negotiating table.
However, while talks between Russia and Ukraine continue to break down, the former leader accused Kyiv of recruiting drug lords from Latin America and sending them to the frontline. The apparent reasoning for this is that these drug cartels have the skills to operate drones, which he claimed were for both combat purposes as well as drug deliveries.
Fuming to his following on the messaging app, Dmitry typed: "We need to send their army special forces (USA) to Kyiv, where they can conduct a brilliant anti-terrorist operation to exterminate drug mercenaries without any risk to life. We can also shoot in the building on Bankova; there are plenty of devoted fans of Pablo Escobar and Fabio Ochoa Vasquez there."
Dmitry went on to brand European leaders as "Euroimbeciles" and accused them of doing everything possible to stall negotiations, according to Russian newspaper Life. He also said the "drug mercenaries" are coming from the likes of Colombia and Mexico, and described them as worthless soldiers but experts in narcotics.
Medvedev is a controversial figure within Russia, despite his unwavering support for Putin and the regime in Moscow. Having been President of Russia from 2008 to 2012, he effectively became a puppet for the Kremlin, leading Russia into major conflicts with neighbours including Georgia.
Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Dmitry has been a fervent backer of Moscow's "special military operation". However, earlier this year, he caused a severe escalation in tensions between Russia and the United States.
Just weeks ago, Medvedev has goaded Trump to fight Russia, adding that the Kremlin is not afraid of the United States. In response, Trump called out Medvedev for his inflammatory posts on Telegram, and escalated tensions himself by moving submarines close to Russian lands.
Trump went on to warn Medvedev to "watch his words" in the wake of the move. Dmitry, for his part, refuted Trump's claims, adding: "If some words of Russia’s former president cause such a nervous response from the oh-so-scary US president, it means that Russia is right about everything and will keep going its own way."
