BBC Eurovision Song Contest 2025 sparks complaints from viewers minutes into Grand Final
Eurovision Song Contest 2025 kicked off with viewers all echoing the same sentiment just moments into the live Grand Final.
Broadcasting live from St Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland, the show hit screens and airwaves via BBC iPlayer, BBC One, Radio 2, and BBC Sounds on Saturday (May 17) evening.
Presenters Hazel Brugger, Michelle Hunziker, and Sandra Studer were at the helm for the night's festivities as 26 acts battled it out for the coveted trophy.
However, the trio's pre-recorded opening segment failed to impress, leaving viewers less than thrilled.
Fans quickly voiced their opinions on X, previously known as Twitter, with one viewer commenting: "why are the presenters always cringe? #Eurovision.", reports Wales Online.
Another chimed in: "Awful cringe hosting but loving to randomness of the hosts costumes #Eurovision."
A third viewer remarked: "cringe opening #Eurovision." While a fourth questioned: "Why are the intros always so awkward? #Eurovision #ESC2025."
Graham Norton, the Eurovision maestro, was back in his element as the BBC One commentator, delivering his insights from the commentary box for those tuning in from home, while Scott Mills and Rylan provided the play-by-play on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds.
Switzerland's Eurovision Song Contest 2024 champion Nemo set the stage alight, opening the show with a rendition of his chart-topping track The Code before the contest officially commenced.
In a last-minute change, Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa was unable to fulfil his role as spokesperson during this weekend's Grand Final due to unforeseen circumstances.
BBC Radio 2's Friday night Kitchen Disco Diva and songstress Sophie Ellis-Bextor is set to deliver the UK's jury results live for Eurovision 2025.
Sophie expressed her excitement, saying "I love Eurovision and it's a privilege to be part of 2025's Grand Final. What an honour it is to announce the UK's jury score on such a special show which always puts music front and centre."
She added, "I am very much looking forward to delivering the iconic douze points from the United Kingdom."
The outcome of the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest will hinge on a mix of scores from national juries and public votes across the participating nations, plus a distinct Rest of The World vote.
Each country's national jury consists of five music industry experts. Once the public has voted, each nation's spokesperson from the 37 competing countries will reveal their jury's points live to viewers worldwide.
Following the jury score announcements, the televoting points from all countries will be amalgamated, assigning one score per entry.
These televoting outcomes will then be disclosed by the hosts, culminating in a thrilling finish as the Eurovision 2025 champion is crowned.
