Liverpool ‘put significant offer on the table’ for Newcastle star as Romano outlines summer plans

Image
Liverpool have made a big offer to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak after being crowned Premier League champions, according to reports. Arne Slot’s side secured their 20th English top-flight title on Sunday with a 5-1 win over Tottenham and four games to spare. With the Reds out of all other competitions, they can turn their attention to the transfer market and their search for a new striker, among other targets. Liverpool have spent relatively little money over the past couple of transfer windows with just Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili, with the latter heading back out on loan to Valencia, their two signings last summer. When asked about his relationship with sporting director Richard Hughes ahead of what many expect to be a busy window, Slot replied earlier this month: “That last thing is something that you say! “There’s not so many reasons to make it a busy one because we are quite well placed in the league and we have only lost in the Champions League a...

Putin's chilling 14-word demand to Zelensky as Kremlin announces three-day ceasefire

Image
On the momentous 80th anniversary of Russian Victory Day, President Vladimir Putin has declared a ceasefire, a move that comes amid escalating pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump for Moscow to cease hostilities in Ukraine. Russian state media outlets have reported that the ceasefire will commence at the stroke of midnight on May 7 and is set to conclude at the same time on May 11. "By decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, based on humanitarian considerations, during the days of the 80th anniversary of the Victory - from midnight on May 7-8 to midnight on May 10-11, the Russian side declares a ceasefire," the Kremlin proclaimed. The Kremlin further stated, "All military actions are suspended for this period," issuing a challenge to Kyiv to reciprocate. They also cautioned that they would deliver "an adequate and effective response" should Ukraine breach the ceasefire terms, reports t...

China Refuses to Do Business With Major U.S. Company Amid Tariffs

Image
Tensions between the United States and China have been high in recent weeks as a result of a trade war between the two countries. And it sounds like one major U.S. company has been impacted. Boeing Co. is one of the largest manufacturers of commercial airliners not just in the United States, but in the entire world. The company is listed on both the Fortune 500 list as well as the Fortune Global 500 list.  However, as a result of the trade war with the United States, it sounds like China is refusing to do business with the aircraft manufacturer. During an appearance on CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street” on Wednesday, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg revealed that China has refused the delivery of a few Boeing planes that were set to be delivered to China to be used by their commercial airlines. “They have in fact stopped taking delivery of aircraft due to the tariff environment,” Ortberg said during the interview. Ortberg revealed that a few 737 Max planes that were in China and were set...

Trump Reveals Russia's 'Pretty Big Concession' in Peace Talks with Ukraine

Image
President Donald Trump asserted Thursday that Russia has already made a "pretty big concession" in the war in Ukraine by not attempting to seize the entire country. The president also contends that Russia's willingness to engage in peace talks that would "stop the war" is a concession. Earlier in the day, Trump issued an unusually direct message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging him to "STOP!" the attacks on Ukraine—marking a rare public rebuke of the Kremlin from the U.S. president. Russia struck Kyiv with an hours-long barrage of missiles and drones. At least 12 people were killed and 90 were injured in the deadliest assault on the city since last July 2024. "I didn't like last night," Trump said Thursday, referring to a large-scale Russian assault on Kyiv. "I wasn't happy with it," he added, explaining his criticism of Putin. By stating that Putin showed "very bad timing" with the recent large-scale ...

Liverpool ‘serious problem’ revealed as Richard Hughes ‘postpones’ contract talks with £163m trio

Image
Liverpool could have a ‘serious problem’ this summer after sporting director Richard Hughes decided to ‘postpone’ contract talks with three stars angling for new deals. Hughes has earned plaudits in recent weeks for extending the contracts of Reds legends Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk, but there is doubt over the futures of three players on top of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who’s expected to leave for Real Madrid on a free transfer. Alexander-Arnold scored the winner for Liverpool against Leicester on Sunday to put Arne Slot’s side within one win of claiming their second Premier League title. Jamie Carragher claimed Alexander-Arnold “shouldn’t be starting games” from now on ahead of his move to Real Madrid while Gary Neville urged Liverpool to avoid a “distasteful” end to the season by confirming the England international’s exit. But that’s the least of Liverpool’s worries according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, who claim three players ‘could also analyse their options’ at the end...

After meeting JD Vance, the Pope delivered a pointed message to the world

Image
Pope Francis used his final public address to warn politicians against “stirring up” anti-migrant sentiment, hours after meeting US Vice President JD Vance. The Pope, who died today at the age of 88, was able to greet crowds at the Vatican in his popemobile yesterday, before delivering his Easter Sunday blessing in what turned out to be his last public appearance. An aide read out his annual Urbi et Orbi blessing and speech, with the Pope saying only: “Brothers and sisters, Happy Easter!” The speech had an international focus, addressing many of the world’s great conflicts, as well as humanitarian crises which receive less attention. Warning against anti-migrant sentiment The speech nodded to a rise in anti-migrant sentiment – warning that “contempt” was being “stirred up” towards migrants, “the vulnerable and the marginalised” – as Donald Trump continues his mass deportations in the US. He said: “How much contempt is stirred up at times towards the vulnerable, the marginalised,...

Alexander Isak told to reject Arsenal and Liverpool for Premier League rival

Image
Alexander Isak has been urged to join Chelsea this summer, with former Premier League star Gus Poyet suggesting he would be a "good fit" at Stamford Bridge. Isak is one of the most in-demand players in world football right now, having starred for Newcastle since joining the club in 2022. The 25-year-old has scored 59 goals in 103 games for the Toon and the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool have all been linked with the striker. However, Poyet believes Isak should join Chelsea instead. "I would like to see Alexander Isak at Chelsea," the ex-Chelsea midfielder told Discasino. "I know him from his time at Real Sociedad and I know his characteristics, movement, and technical ability, and I think he'd be a good fit at Chelsea. "I also think Nicolas Jackson needs competition up front – if you want to be the number 9 at Chelsea, you need to be better than how he's currently performing. 'Sometimes to get better you need more of a challenge – it didn...

Trump lashes out at British hedge fund for betting against Truth Social

Image
Donald Trump has lashed out at a British hedge fund that has placed a $100m (£75.4m) bet against his social media company. Trump Media and Technology, the parent company of Mr Trump’s Truth Social platform, has accused UK-based Qube Research & Technologies of “potential market manipulation” after the hedge fund shorted its shares on Wall Street. Qube, which employs more than 340 people in London, last week revealed a $105m short position in Trump Media – which is 53pc owned by Mr Trump. Short selling involves betting on a decline in a company’s share price by borrowing shares from another investor before selling them with the hope of buying them back at a lower price to pocket the difference. On Thursday, Mr Trump’s company flagged Qube’s trading to the US stock market regulator, claiming trading patterns suggested it was “suspicious”. In a memo sent to Mark Uyeda, acting chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Trump Media alleged that Qube could have been ...

The crucial games Kylian Mbappe will miss after red card for Real Madrid horror challenge

Image
Kylian Mbappe was deservedly shown a straight red card after producing one of the worst challenges of the season in Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Alaves in La Liga. Eduardo Camavinga went some way to redeeming himself by scoring the only goal of the game at Alaves’ Mendizorrotza Stadium, just days after he was given his marching orders in the Madrid’s Champions League quarter-final first leg loss to Arsenal. But only four minutes after Camavinga’s stunning first-half effort, Mbappe was shown a red card of his own for a truly horrendous foul on Antonio Blanco, which left the Alaves midfielder writhing around on the turf. Replays showed Mbappe miss the ball by some distance with his right boot before careering into Blanco’s standing leg with his studs up. After a VAR check, referee Cesar Soto was left with little option but to send the Frenchman for an early bath. It was an uncharacteristic moment of madness from Mbappe, who had only been shown three red cards in his entire professio...

Mohamed Salah 'contract decision made' and £50m man targeted

Image
Liverpool are teetering on the edge of bagging the Premier League title, staying ahead of the pack despite a 3-2 stumble against Fulham on Sunday. The Reds are clinging to an impressive 11-point lead over Arsenal. Flashback to 2020, when Liverpool last clenched their fists around the trophy, with Jurgen Klopp at the helm racking up a whopping 99 points - calling time on a 30-year-long wait for top-tier glory. Klopp's midfield makeover prior to last season seems bang on the money as Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, and Dominik Szoboszlai have been dazzling on the pitch this term. Liverpool might be cruising towards another league win, but whispers of defensive and forward line shake-ups are in the air for the summer, not least because contract clocks for Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah are ticking down. And Daily Star Sport looks at the latest transfer rumours from the banks of the River Mersey. Mohamed Salah 'decision made' Mohamed Salah...

'Blatantly lying': Economists whack Trump official's attempt to blame Biden for turmoil

Image
Trump Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Wednesday tried to shrug off turmoil in the American economy by placing the blame for any troubles on former President Joe Biden. During an appearance on Maria Bartiromo's show on Fox Business, Bartiromo grilled Bessent about the CEO of a major company who told her recently that they believed the United States had already entered an economic recession. Instead of directly addressing the question, Bessent tried to shift blame away to the former president. "What the CEO may have alluded to is that the manufacturing sector under the previous administration was in a recession," he said. This remark quickly drew the attention of Ernie Tedeschi, the director of economics at Yale's The Budget Lab. "Not sure what Bessent means by 'manufacturing recession' here," he wrote on X. "Real manufacturing GDP (value-added) grew 1.3% over the 4Q ending 2024, and 2% annualized over the 8Q, neither of which are recessiona...

Mark Cuban: "My Money Is on Donald Trump Winning"

Image
Breaking with President Donald Trump ’s decision to levy expansive tariffs on most foreign nations, Elon Musk said Europe and the U.S. “should move to a zero tariff situation, effectively creating a free trade zone between Europe and North America.” Billionaire Mark Cuban wrote today on X: “Free Trade @elonmusk vs Full Tariff @realDonaldTrump and @howardlutnick is going to be fascinating to watch. They are the exact opposite sides of each other.” Cuban breaks it down: “0 tariffs (free trade as Elon proposes) makes it cheaper to make overseas than it was under Biden. Which is great for consumers. “Full Tariffs (Apr 2nd Tariffs) or Across the Board Tariffs (10 pct in place now) generate tax revenues paid for by exporters, importers and consumers (each product is different), and is inflationary when importers and consumers pay. “my money is on @realDonaldTrump winning.” Investor Ted Zhang replied and asked Cuban for his thoughts on billionaire Stanley Drunkenmiller‘s comments on tari...
